Hilda Bastian is an expert in the data analysis of clinical studies and a founding member of the Cochrane Collaboration. On the news portal Vox, she has complained about scepticism in Europe and the USA towards vaccines produced in Asia. Vivienne Stern, director of UK Universities International, has criticised the European Commission’s attempts to prevent countries outside the EU, UK and Switzerland from participating in a new research programme on quantum data processing and space projects. “It would be a classic lose-lose”, she says, “with researchers in all countries having to work harder, and spend more, to make progress in these fields”.
