Pastel confusion
The South African artist Alexis Christodoulou is regarded as a pioneer of imaginary architecture. The technique he uses – ‘rendering’ – is employed in the property sector to make as yet inexistent buildings attractive to potential buyers. But Christodoulou creates spaces and landscapes that will never be built, and could never exist. His works are often cast in pastels and fluorescent colours. They are confusing because they seem real even though we know they can’t be. Take a look for yourself.
