ON THE GRAPEVINE
“People don’t want to give credit for ideas, which is a big problem”
Oded Rechavi is a professor of molecular genetics at Tel Aviv University. He’s disappointed with the research community, and has said so on Twitter. He and his colleague Pavel Tomancak from Dresden proposed in the journal Nature that scientific articles should in future include not just source references for each statement made, but should also show in detail who had what ideas for each individual experiment and who ultimately carried it out.
But a lot of people on Twitter were annoyed by their insistence on compartmentalisation, finding it too cumbersome, too confusing, and contrary to the spirit of teamwork.
