NUMBERS
A new world record for participating authors
is to date the highest number of co-authors ever listed in a peer-reviewed academic paper, according to an article in Nature about ‘big-team science’ and the challenges of getting thousands upon thousands of researchers to collaborate. This recording-breaking paper was about the impact of SARS-CoV-2 vaccines and was published in early 2021. A distant second place is currently held by a paper from 2015 on measuring the Higgs boson, which has 5,154 co-authors.
