Photographing nothing “is possible in purely theoretical terms, though in practical terms, you’d end up with completely black images”, say Jojakim Cortis and Adrian Sonderegger. They painted black circular shapes in different places in their studio using lots of paint. This created imaginary surfaces that seem detached from their surroundings. Everything seems to disappear behind these black holes – almost everything, at least. Traces of these black holes are still to be found in their studio.
