About us
Horizons magazine
Horizons shines a light on scientific research in Switzerland. The magazine reports on the latest developments in science and discusses research policy issues of global importance. Horizons is published by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) and the Swiss Academies of Arts and Sciences. The editors are independent and the articles do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the two publishers. A print edition of Horizons is published four times a year in German and French. The online version is also available in English.
The SNSF
Mandated by the Swiss government, the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) supports scientific research in all academic disciplines. Each year it invests over 900 million francs in research projects, of which there are currently 5800 involving 16,000 researchers. This makes the SNSF the most important research funder in Switzerland.
The Academies
The Swiss Academies of Arts and Sciences seek to foster an equitable dialogue between science and society. They represent the sciences across institutions and disciplines. Firmly rooted in the scientific community, they have access to the expertise of about 100,000 researchers.
